One of my philosophies that I try to live by, especially at work, is "being open to everything and attached to nothing." When I do that, it brings me peace in a situation that I think is nuts.
However, sometimes I find it extremely difficult to do this. When I find myself in that situation, I put it through the 5-year or 20-year test: will it matter in 5 years? In 20? If the answer is no, then I try to not be too attached to it.
If it will matter in 5 years, I try to listen to the other side, but I try to do what's right.
With what is going on in the world today, sometimes you must take a stand. Being open to everything doesn't mean you don't stand on your convictions. It just means you are willing to listen and be open.
It also doesn't mean you can't think some one or some situation is nuts.
Choose kindness when you can. Walk away when you need to. Stand your ground when you must.
Find your voice. Find your power. Find your sanity.
