Nobody puts baby in a corner! And nobody doesn’t get happier if they dance, dance, dance!
(I know, you had to read the 2nd sentence 2-3 times to understand it.)
In simple terms: dancing makes you happy.
Research has proven that it’s one of the keys to happiness. It releases endorphins, neurotransmitters that create a feeling of comfort, relaxation, fun and power. Study after study shows it helps develop better concentration, a sense of peace and tranquility. Just google dancing and happiness.
But phooey on the science. It’s just friggin’ fun. Just dance, dance, dance.
It’s amazing to me how apprehensive people are to dance. At my former job, each Friday before our weekly meeting, I would blast a fun song to get everyone’s energy up. Most people would just stare at me awkwardly. Occasionally, someone would dance and act crazy. Occasionally, someone from another department would stop by and dance. Loved those people! What a wonderful world it would be if people just got up and danced without feeling awkward, silly or out of place. Especially in the corporate world.
But I get it. This major corporate introvert gets it.
Last year, I was laid off from work and I was filled with fear and anger. I knew I needed to do something to get me out of my funk. So, I went totally out of my comfort zone and did something very “un-corporate-like.” I was certified as a Let Your Yoga Dance teacher.
I signed up for training at this wonderful retreat in the Berkshires in Massachusetts. I never really went into it planning to be a teacher. I just wanted to do something totally different for me. On my first day of training, I just wanted to run. Being an introvert in a room filled with dancing women was not something I was used to. Add to it, the room was filled with a bunch of skinny-assed people and I thought, “What the hell was I thinking coming here to be trained?”
But I discovered it was just what I needed.
Let Your Yoga Dance is fun, funky, sacred and inspirational all at once. Just one class can bring you tons of fun and healing to body, mind, spirit. To me (and why I decided to go full throttle and become a teacher), it's about loving yourself, no matter what age you are, what shape you are, what aches you may have. It’s an amazing practice for men and women. Everyone is a dancer.
Many of the women becoming teachers were also dealing with something in their lives... we all discovered how fun and healing dancing can be.
I encourage you to seek out a class in your area. You can learn more about the practice and find a teacher at letyouryogadance.com. If you can’t find a teacher, become one. It’s needed in your area!
Through this wonderful practice, I found a tribe of beautiful people who are helping others get strong enough to meet their challenges in life… simply by dancing. I hope you’ll do the same. Find your tribe and dance, dance, dance. Face your fears, your insecurities.
If you can’t find your tribe, dance by yourself. You won’t be alone. You’ll be with spirit.
Just crank up the volume, play your favorite song and dance, dance, dance.
Don’t let anyone put you in a corner.
